Movement at synovial joints Flashcards
Flexion
Reduces angle at the joint. e.g. a bicep curl - When bringing up the arm with the weight.
Extension
Extending the angle at a joint. e.g. kicking a ball - leg fully extends.
Abduction
Outward movement of limbs from the midline of the body. e.g. star jump - Beginning of the movement.
Adduction
Inward movement of the limbs from the midline of the body e.g. Star jump - ending of the movement.
Rotation
Circular movement of the joints e.g. serving in tennis or hula hooping.
Dorsiflexion
Toe section of the foot pointing upwards e.g. landing a long jump.
Plantar flexion
Toe section of the foot pointing downwards e.g. a calve raise.
Circumduction
Movement of a limb extending from the joint, the movement is controlled. E.g. Hula hooping around the arm.
Lateral flexion
Side bending movement of the body away from the midline. E.g. Dodging a punch in boxing.
