A
  1. From the end of the third stage of labour to 6 weeks post-partum.
  2. 3rd degree- a and b involve external anal sphincter, c involves internal also,
    4th degree- involves anal or rectal sphincter.
  3. Surgical management.

  1. Why is there a greater risk of Venous thromboembolism in pregnancy, labour and puerperium?
  2. What are the recommendations for those at low risk of VTE and what about high risk?

  1. Causes a hypercoagulable state
  2. Low risk- hydration and mobilisation
    High risk- prophylactic LMWH.
