Postmodernists Flashcards
What’s the Postmodernist Perspective on Education?
Education is not the same as it used to be. It is now incredibly diverse.
Usher and Thompson
The purpose of education has changed. Nowadays, society is so diverse that the purpose of education should be tailored for each pupil. Education was once a one size fits all approach but now t should be tailored to the individual as identities have become so diverse e.g in the past people had a conventional outlook, nowadays everyone wants something different from life.
Lyotard
The purpose of education in the past was to educate children, whereas nowadays it has changed into a business-like perspective, with schools questioning how they can improve the quality of the product we deliver to our clients. We look at the individual as a consumer.
Evaluation
Postmodernists are not overly clear how schools should actually go about embracing diversification in this way.
