Posterior Thigh and Popliteal Fossa Flashcards
Hamstrings: Origin
Ischial tuberosity (except short head of biceps femoris)
Hamstrings: Innervation
Tibial division of sciatic nerve (which includes the hamstring portion of adductor magnus)
except short head of biceps femoris (common fibular portion)
Hamstrings: Functions
- Thigh extension, except short head of biceps femoris
- Leg flexion (all four)
Semitendinosus M. : Function
- Extend thigh; flex leg (medial rotate)
Semitendinosus M. : Innervation
Tibial division of sciatic nerve
Semitendinosus M. : Origin
Ischial tuberosity
Semitendinosus M. : Insertion
Medial surface of superior aspect of tibia (at the pes anserinus)
Semimembranosus M. : Functions
- Extend thigh
- Flex leg
Semimembranosus M. : Innervation
Tibial division of sciatic nerve
Semimembranosus M. : Origin
Ischial tuberosity
- flattened membranous proximal attachment
Semimembranosus M. : Insertion
- Posterior part of medial condyle of tibia
- Part blends with popliteal fascia and becomes oblique popliteal ligament (reinforces the intercondylar part of joint capsule of knee)
Long Head of Biceps Femoris M. : Function
- Flex leg
- Extend thigh
Long Head of Biceps Femoris M. : Innervation
Tibial division of sciatic nerve
Short Head of Biceps Femoris M. : Function
Only flex leg
Short Head of Biceps Femoris M. : Innervation
Common fibular branch of the sciatic nerve
