Origin:
* Long head: Ischial tuberosity
* Short head: Linea aspera, lateral supracondylar line

Insertion: Head of fibula
Action: Knee flexion, external rotatation. Hip extension (long head only)
Innervation:
* Long head: Tibial division of sciatic n.
* Short head: Common fibular division of sciatic n.
