Popliteus
Origin: Groove for popliteus
Insertion: Posterior surface of tibia, superior to soleal line
Action: Knee internal rotation, unlokc knee at beginning of knee flexion
Innervation: Tibial n.
Tibialis posterior
Origin: Posterior aspect of tibia, inferior to soleal line, posterior aspect of fibular & adjacent interosseous membrane
Insertion: Tuberosity of navicular, plantar aspects of medial, intermediate, lateral cuneiforms, plantar aspects of bases of metatarsals 2-4
Action: Foot inversion & ankle plantarflexion
Innervation: Tibial n.
Flexor digitorum longus
Origin: Posterior aspect of tibia, inferior to soleal line
Insertion: Plantar aspects of bases of distal phalanx of digits 2-5
Action: Flexion of digits 2-5, ankle plantarflexion
Innervation: Tibial n.
Flexor hallucis longus
Origin: Distal 2/3 of posterior fibula & adjacent interosseous membrane
Insertion: Plantar aspect of base of distal phalanx of big toe
Action: Big toe flexion & ankle plantarflexion
Innervation: Tibial n.
