Posterior Thigh Flashcards
Biceps femoris Origin
Long head: ischial tuberosity
Short head: linea aspera and lateral supracondylar line
of femur
Biceps Femoris Insertion
head of fibular
Biceps Femoris Innervation
Long head: tibial division of the sciatic nerve (L5, S1, S2)
Short head: common fibular division of sciatic nerve(L5, S1, S2)
Biceps Femoris Action
Hip joint: extension, external rotation; stabilizes pelvis
Knee joint: leg flexion, leg external rotation
Biceps Femoris Arterial Supply
Inferior gluteal a., perforating aa., popliteal a.
Semitendinosus Origin
ischial tuberosity
Semitendinosus Insertion
Medial surface of the superior
part of tibia. (Pes anserinus)
Semitendinosus Innervation
Tibial division of the sciatic nerve (L5, S1, S2)
Semitendinosus Action
Hip joint: It extends thigh, medially rotates thigh.
Knee joint: Flexes and medially rotates leg.
Semitendinosus Arterial Supply
First perforating branch of deep femoral a., medial
femoral circumflex a., inferior gluteal a. and inferior medial
geniculate a.
Semimembranosus Origin
ischial tuberosity
Semimembranosus Insertion
Posterior part of medial tibial
condyle
Semimembranosus Innervation
Tibial division of the sciatic nerve (L5, S1, S2)
Semimembranosus Action
Hip joint: thigh extension and internal rotation.
Knee joint: flexion and internal rotation of the leg
Stabilizes pelvis
Semimembranosus Arterial Supply
Perforating branches of femoral and
popliteal arteries
Gastrocnemius Origin
lateral head – lateral aspects of lateral
condyle of femur
Medial head – popliteal surface of femur,
superior to medial condyle
