Posterior Leg Compartment Muscles Flashcards
Insertion of gastrocnemius
Posterior surface of calcaneous via calcaneal tendkm
Origin if gastrocnemius
Lateral head: lateral aspect of lateral condyle of femur
Medial head: popliteal surface of femur, superior to medial condyl
Innervation if gastrocnemius
Tibial nerve S1 and S2
Action of gastrocnemius
Plantarflexes ankle when knee is extended, raises heel during walking, flexes knee joint
Origin of soleus
Posterior aspect of head o fibula, superior quarter of posterior surface of fibula, soleal line, and medial border of tibia
Insertion of soleus
Posterior surface of calcanous via calcaneal tendon
Innervation of soleus
Tibial nerve S1 andS2
Action of soleus
Plantar flexes ankle
Origin of plantaris
Inferior end of lateral supracondylar line of femur and oblique popliteal ligament
Insertion of plantaris
Posterior surface of calcaneous via calcaneal tendon
Innervation of plantaris
Tibial nerve S1 and S2
Action of plantaris
Weakly helps plantarflex ankle, proprioceptive function
Origin if popliteus
Lateral surface of lateral condole of femur and lateral meniscus
Insertion of popliteus
Posterior surface of tibia, superior to soleal line
Innervation of popliteus
Tibial nerve L4,L4,S1
