Posterior Compartment of Leg- Superficial Group Flashcards
Insertion of Gastrocnemius, Soleus, and Plantaris
Posterior surface of calcaneus via calcaneal tendon
Origin of Gastrocnemius lateral head
and medial head
Lateral head: lateral aspect of lateral condyle of femur
Medial head: popliteal surface of femur, superior to medial condyle
Innervation of Gastronemius, soleus, and plantaris
Tibial nerve (S1, S2)
Action of Gastrocnemius
Plantarflexes ankle when knee is extended, raises heel during walking, and flexes knee joint
Origin of Soleus
Posterior aspect of head of fibula, superior quarter of posterior surface of fibula, soleal line, and medial border of tibia
Action of Soleus
Plantarflexes ankle, steadies leg on foot
Origin of Plantaris
Inferior end of lateral supracondylar line of femur and oblique popliteal ligament
Action of Plantaris
Weakly assists gastrocnemius in plantarflexing ankle; function probably mainly proprioceptive
