Diktat
Dictated peace (what Germans call the treaty of versailles)
Why did the Big three disagree over the terms of the TOV?
- each country had been different affected by the war
- because they had different political aims
Why did the Big three disagree over the terms of the TOV? Para 1 (each country had been differently affected by the war)
- France was very badly damaged, 750000 homes were destroyed therefore Clemenceau wanted revenge
- America didn’t join WW1 until 1917, very little damage to territory and so Wilson was more lenient.
- Britain had suffered enormously from the war which was costing £5.7 million per day but Lloyd George wanted to maintain trade in Europe as well as punishing Germany.
Why did the Big three disagree over the terms of the TOV? Para 2 (because of their different political aims)
- Frances main aim was to make Germany suffer, for example they demanded the return of Alsace- Lorraine and the enormous reparations
- America and Woodrow Wilson had idealistic aims. Wilson wanted a lasting peace through his 14 points and allowing self determination for new nations.
- for British and Lloyd George, the main aim was to maintain a peaceful Europe. The British people did not want another war and so Lloyd George was more moderate
