post synaptic receptors Flashcards
1
Q
types of receptors
A
- inotropic
- metabotropic
2
Q
inotropic receptors
A
- direct channels
l ligand gated channels
3
Q
metabotropic receptors
A
- G coupled receptors
- linked to G protein
- indirect
- can activate enzymes
4
Q
Structure of ACh nicotine receptor
A
- 5 subunits
- 2 alpha and one of each other one
- so 2 ACh molecules must bind simultaneously
5
Q
effect of letting sodium in
A
excitatory
6
Q
effect of letting chlorine in
A
inhibitory
7
Q
types of acetylcholine receptors
A
- nicotinic
- muscarinic
8
Q
nicotinic receptors
A
- ionotropic
- NMJ and brain
- nicotine is an agonist
- curare in an antagonist
9
Q
muscarine receptor
A
- metabotropic
- smooth muslce like heart and gut
- muscarine is the agonist
- atropine is the antagonist
10
Q
what type of receptors are the dopamine ones
A
metabotropic
11
Q
types of dopamine receptors
A
- D1
- D2
12
Q
D1 receptors
A
- activates adenyly cylcalse and increases cAMP
13
Q
D2 receptor
A
inhibits enzyme adenylyl cyclase and decreases amount of cAMP
- blocked by antipsychotics to increase
14
Q
GABAa receptor
A
- inotropic
- Inhibitory
- takes in Cl- which causes shunt inhibition and hyperpolarization
15
Q
benzodiazepine
A
- enhances effect of GABAa by increasing frequency of its binding
- valium
- relaxes
16
Q
barbiturates
A
- enhances effects of GABAa by prolonging its effects
17
Q
GABAa liagnds
A
- it has many ligands that can bind
- the drugs themselves dont open the channels but they change the effet that GABA has when it binds at the same time
18
Q
GABAb receptors
A
- metabotropic
- G protein opens potassium channel and thus hyperpolarizes
- letting k out makes it return to be more negative and thus less likely to fire
19
Q
Glutamate receptors
A
- major excitatory because it excited and makes fire (depolarizes)
- let in sodium
20
Q
type of glutamate receptors
A
- metabotropic: mGLuR
- inotropic: AMPA, NMDA, kainate
21
Q
AMPA
A
- lets in sodium and potassium
- more sodium will come in so it will depolarize and become more likely to fire
22
Q
kainate
A
- we dont know too much about it but its similar to AMPA
23
Q
NMDA
A
- lets sodium and calcium in only (depolarize) when enough EPSPs build up
- voltage gated and ligand gated
- calcium will have a host of effets and activate enzymes that will create long lasting strctural changes (like learning)
