Post-partum contraception

- Not needed first 3 weeks
- Breastfeeding (lactational amenorrhoea) may be used as contraception
- Breastfeeding women can start POP without additional contraceptive protection
- Avoid COCP in lactating women as it can affect milk composition and increase the incidence of breast-feeding failure
- Bottle-feeding women can start COCP 21d post-partum (may increase risk of VTE with earlier commencement)
