Post-flop Strategy - As the Pre-flop Aggressor - Out of Position Flashcards
What is our strategy with our Premium made hands?
We should definitely bet our premium made hands. But we should check some of them IN ORDER TO make our marginal made hands range stronger.
For example, if we always bet with our top pair and better made hands, and check/call with our made hands worse than top pair, we will have a difficult time check/calling down on all 3 streets, resulting in us folding much of our check/calling range by the river.
To counteract this, we should check with some hands that can easily check/call down on all streets, namely some of our premium made hands. We should still bet with a majority of our premium made hands.
What is our strategy with our Marginal made hands?
Is there ever a time to check or bet when out of position?
Check with the marginal made hands that can withstand pressure.
Bet as a semi-bluff with the our weakest marginal made hands, such as bottom pair.
This is because if we check/call, almost every turn card is bad for us, and if we face an additional bet, we will be in a difficult spot. By betting, we get to see the turn with initiative, allowing us to keep betting if we improve or if the turn provides an excellent bluffing opportunity.
What is our strategy with our drawing hands?
Is there ever a time to check our drawing hands when out of position?
We should bet with any sort of draw.
The main time to check with a draw is when it also has a pair or a strong Ace-high that can conceivably win unimproved at the showdown.
If our opponent will always bet any two cards, opt to check/raise.
What is our strategy with our junk hands?
Our junk should be bet a bit more often, given we will not be able to check/call with them.
If we c-bet and get raised, we can fold. If we get called, we can go on to the turn with initiative.
