Master the Fundamentals Flashcards
What are the 3 main reasons to bet?
Explain
- Value
You want worse hands to call. Can be with a premium hand or decent but marginal hand (aka thin value). - Protection
You want hands that have the potential to improve to fold. - Bluff
You want better hands to fold. Can be a pure bluff or a semi-bluff.
When we get 3-Bet, what are the 4 things we need to consider?
Explain
- Your opponent’s strategy
Looser range = play more hands - The 3-bet amount
Smaller 3-bet = play more hands - Your position
Later position = play more hands - Your opponent’s position in relation to you
When you are in position = play more hands
Explain the difference between a tricky limper and a straight forward limper.
And how do you exploit them.
Tricky Limper -
- Limp with some portion of premium hands to trap.
- Most limp/3-bet with only their best hands.
- Most are only tricky from early positions because they have more people that can potentially raise them.
Exploit - by just limping back.
Straight Forward Limper -
- Usually have junky ranges that do not contain the best hands.
Exploit - by raising with a range similar to your initial preflop range. Exceptions: you can call more often with suited connectors, suited aces, small pairs
How should you play vs a raise from the following player type:
- Tight Aggressive Player (TAG) raise
- Loose Aggressive Player (LAG) raise
- Tight Passive Player (NIT) raise
- Loose Passive (Calling Station) raise
- Tight Aggressive Player (TAG) - Play straight forward from the charts
- Loose Aggressive Player (LAG) - 3-bet and call more often than the charts recommend
- Tight Passive Player (NIT) - Fold more often than the charts recommend
- Loose Passive (Calling Station) - Fold more often than the charts recommend
What are the 3 range composition of hands?
Explain
- Polarized
Premium hands and hands not quite good enough to call. - Linear
Premium and strong marginal hands. - Condensed
Decent, but non-premium hands.
What is the definition of the following:
- Range
- Range Advantage
- Nut Advantage
- Range - A grouping of hands that a player can have in a situation.
- Range Advantage - When one range has a distinct equity advantage over another range.
- Nut Advantage - When one range has a distinct nutted hand advantage over another range.
What are the implied odds hands?
Do they have more value when deep stacked or short stacked?
Implied odds hands - small pairs, suited aces, suited connectors
have a large amount of value when deep stacked
What are the reverse implied odds hands?
Reverse implied odds hands - low Ax cards (A2-A9), off suit Broadway hands and off suit connectors.
What are some adjustments due to SPR?
The lower the SPR, the less polar the check/raising range typically is.
As the SPR goes down, you should be more willing to 3-bet the flop and get it
all-in immediately.
There is a large increase in 3-betting the flop at SPR’s < 1 if you were to call
the check/raise.
3bet the flop with premium hands that need protection + some draws, and
call with premium hands that need no protection and draws that don’t want
to stack off immediately.
