Possible Accidents Flashcards
Fainting symptoms?
dizziness, blurred vision, SOB, palpitations, cold sweat, chest tightness, nausea, vomit, listlessness, P=deep/thin
sever: cold limb below knee/elbows, loss of consciousness
Fainting causes?
1) weak constitution
2) nervousness
3) fatigue
4) loss of BF/blood/hungry
5) uncomfortable body position
Fainting management?
1) stop/remove needles
2) patient lay down (head below body, side position)
3) loosen tight clothes
4) keep warm
5) drink warm water or sugar water
sever: PC-6, DU-26, ST-36
moxa-DU-20, RN-4/6/8
Fainting prevention?
1) be observant (how patient is responding to tx) -esp. new patient
2) explain procedure to patient- esp. new patient
3) select comfortable position (lay down)- esp. shoulder/back pain
4) dont use too many points/deep stimulation- esp. new patient
5) patients rushing in (SOB, nervous)- give them time to relax before treating
Stuck needle symptoms?
-difficult removal of needle
Stuck needle causes?
1) forceful manipulation (practitioner)
2) nervous patient (muscle spasm)
3) patient moves with needles in
Stuck needle Management?
1) leave needle longer (muscle spasm)
2) palpate/massage along the meridian
3) “scrubbing” needle, gently tap/flick needle
4) needle nearby point
Stuck needle Prevention?
1) explain tx (minimize anxiety)
2) avoid tendons
3) dont manipulate too fast/ or in one direction
Bent needle Causes?
1) practitioner inserted needle too long
2) hard tissue
3) patient moved during needle retention
4) object hit needle during retention
Bent needle management?
1) dont manipulate anymore
2) take needle out
3) move patient back to original postition
4) wait for patient to relax
Bent needle Prevention?
1) practice needle technique (strengthen fingers)
2) choose correct body position
3) avoid objects hitting needle
4) tx stuck needle so it doesnt turn into bent needle
Broken Needle causes?
1) poor quality needles
2) strong manipulation)
3) bad needle technique (inserted too deep-up to handle)
4) patient moved
5) object hit needle
6) electro stimulation
Broken needle management?
1) keep calm
2) dont move patient
3) forceps (if above skin)
4) surgery (if below skin)
Broken needle Prevention?
1) check needle quality
2) use correct needle length
3) electro- start at 0
Hematoma symptoms?
swelling, brusing, bleeding
Hematoma causes?
1) poor needle technique (not sharp)
2) patient constitution (prone to bleeding)
Hematoma management?
- nothing- it will go away in a couple of days
1) dont use alcohol swab/stimulation (increases bleeding)
2) apply pressure
sever: 1) cold compress- first 24 hours
2) hot compress afterwards
Hematoma Prevention?
1) explain to patient (not completely avoidable)
2) check needle quality (not bent)
3) avoid artery
Pneumothorax symptoms?
pain/fullness in chest, difficult breathing, rapid heart beat, sweat
Pneumothorax management?
1) position patient (lay on side)
2) closely watch patient
After effect symptoms?
sore, itchy, tingling
After effect management?
1) massage
2) moxa
