Postpartum “baby blues” signs
Tearful, anorexia, diff sleep, feeling let down, evaluate if persist 2-3 weeks
Lochia
Bright red
Rubra 1-3 days
Serosa ( pink) 4-10
Alba (white) 11-21 day possibly 6 wks
BUBBLEHEB
Breast, uterus, bladder, bowel, lochia, episiotomy/ laceration, hemorrhoid a, emotional, bonding
Uterine/fundal assessment
After delivery 6-12 hrs at umbilicus
Fundal height decreases 1cm/ day until 10th day
Massage fundus right before breast feeding
After pains
Intermittent uterine contractions after delivery
Common in multigravida
Last 2-3 days
Episiotomy
Heals in 4-6 weeks
No intercourse for 6 weeks to heal ( use lube)
REEDA
For episiotomy assessment
Redness, edema, ecchymosis, drainage, approximation
Perineal lacerations
- Vaginak mucous membrane and skin of perineum to the fourchette
- Involve vagina, perineal skin, fasci, levagor ani muscle and perineal body
- Entire perineum and reach external sphincter of rectum
- Entire perineum, recital sphincter, some of he mucous membrane of rectum
Bladder
Encourage voiding 6-8 hours after delivery, void every 2-3 hours
C-section: void within 4 hours of removing foley
