  1. Positive Symptoms (also known as Type 1) are an ADDITION to normal thought patterns and experiences
  2. They involve the displaying of behaviours concerning a loss of touch with reality
  3. They generally occur in acute, short episodes with more normal periods in between
  4. They respond well to medication

What is Thought Disorder?

A
  1. This is sometimes described as ‘Derailment’ or ‘Knight’s move thinking’
  2. The persons thoughts and discourse seem to jump from one topic to another for no apparent reason
  3. They show no logical sense of discussion
  4. The patients speech might be muddled and proved very hard to follow
  5. Their speech may also be so incoherent that it sounds like complete gibberish - something that is often referred to as ‘Word Salad’
