Tejo: General
- named after the Tejo River
-Mediterranean climate hot dry summers with mild, wet winters
-750mm rainfall
-North has hjigher rainfall and clay limestone /schist soils , mostly REDS
- South is hot and dry with poor sandy soils - both red and whites
-Production focused on volume and fertile soil to proide high yields
-after EU , newwer plantings of high quality grapes were planted on less fertile soils in the N and S
-Tejo DOC production ranged from 52,000hl to 106,000hl compared to 224,000-468,000hl for VR wines ( between 17-21 )
- considerable production without GI
-majority are inna fruity style and made for early consumption , acceptable to good and inexpensive to mid priced
