Q2. What marks the edge of the bank from Drapers Reef to Swan Spit

A
  • Swan Spit extends 0.8nm south of Swan Point with less than 5 meters over it. It is marked at its outer edge by a red pile beacon with a can topmark QR.4m.3M in 6m, 0.3nm NW of #2Bcn West Ch.
  • The bank extends SW with 1-3m on it and is also marked by two red pile beacons with can top marks located 0.3nm SE (QR) and 0.9nm E (Fl.R.3s) from Swan Harbour breakwaters.
  • The bank is covered by the red sector of Low Light (241°-252°) and is cleared by keeping in the white sector of that light (252°-260°).
  • By day it is cleared by Drapers Reef Bcn on with Lonsdale Lighthouse (245°). The transit of Lighthouse Point Bcn. or Drapers Reef Bcn. with Lonsdale (245°) does clear to the east.
  • The West Channel lies between West Channel Pile and Popes Eye annulus and is marked by beacons #2 to #13, It is 5 miles long and has a declared depth of 4.0 metres.
  • West Channel is closed to vessels greater than 35m LOA, with the exception of recreational vessels, tugs, barges, workboats, trading and fishing vessels holding a valid TSV certificate of survey and government vessels of such draft as to ensure a safe transit.

Q6. Describe the Inner Anchorage.

A
  • There are three designated anchorages, A1 (10.0m) *hmd 9.8m, A2 (11.1m) *11.0m, A3 (12.0m).
  • The inner anchorage is restricted to vessels with a maximum length of 240 meters and a maximum draught of 9.0 meters.
  • In general, vessels with a draught over 7.6 meters should avoid anchoring A1 or A2 anchorages if they are bound for Melbourne.

  • The Outer Anchorage is a marked by a yellow special mark pile showing a Fl(4)Y.12s 10m 3M light. The pile lies in position 3.26nm due west of the Fawkner Beacon.
  • The Outer Anchorage has thirteen designated anchorages S1 to S13.
  • In addition, four designated anchorages exist within the outer anchorage G1 to G4.
  • Each anchorage has a radius of 0.5nm (926m)
