Porphyria Flashcards
Cutaneous Photosensitivity=
Abnormal Skin reaction to UV (and sometimes visible) light
Porphyria=
Hereditary disease, where there is a build up of porphrins, cause by reduced enzyme activity in the haem pathway. These porphrins react with light to produce skin reactions.
What are the three most common Porphyrias?
PCT, EPP, AIP
What enzyme is there a deficiency of in PCT?
Uroporphyrinogen
What is there a build up of in PCT?
Uroporphyrins
What enzyme is there a deficiency of in EPP?
Ferrochelatase
What is there a build up of in EPP?
Protoporphyrins
What enzyme is there a deficiency of in AIP?
PBG deaminase
What is there a build up of in AIP?
Uroporphyrins
Which porphyrias cause photosensitive reactions?
PCT and EPP
AIP does not
Which porphyria(s) cause blistering?
PCT causes blistering
EPP does not
