2011: 7 countries had a life expectancy below 50yrs

political: strength of economy, impact of war and conflicts
Haiti- president Duvalier = corruption, stole £504 million
-managed to clear debt of 150 million francs to France in 1883
therefore weakens their economy and reduction of money for development
UK- stable government with little corruption
