Population Dynamics Flashcards
Carrying capacity :
Max number of organisms that can be sustained by available resources over a given period of time
Fecundity:
the potential for an individual to produce offspring in a life time.
Logistic growth:
Population growth deceiving a growth that levels off as it reaches it’s carrying capacity.
Geometric growth:
A pattern of population growth where organisms reproduce at fixed intervals and a constant rate.
Exponential growth:
Pop growth where organisms reproduce continuously at a constant rate.
Biotic potential
The max rate a population can increase at under ideal circumstances.
Crude density
Pop density measured interns of # of organisms of the same species within the same area.
Type 1 survivorship
Low mortality rate until they are beyond reproductive years, slow sexual maturity, few offspring.
Type two survivorship
Uniform mortality rates through out their lifespan
Type 3 survivorship:
High mortality rate at a young age.
