Population, birth rate and PMCC Flashcards
What is the formula for standardised birth rate?
standardised birth rate = crude birth rate / 1,000 x standard population
What is PMCC?
Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient / r
What is PMCC used for?
It is used to measure the strength of linear correlation between two sets of data
What do the different values of r mean?
If r close to 1 there is a strong positive correlation
If r is close to zero there is no correlation
If r is close to -1 there is a strong negative correlation
What is the difference between Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient and Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient?
PMCC is suitable for data that shows linear correlation
SRCC is suitable for data that shows a non-linear correlation
Define ‘population’
Everything or everybody that could possible be involved in an investigation
Define ‘sample frame’
A list of the people or items that are to be sampled
Define ‘sample’ or ‘sampling units’
The people or items that are to be sampled
