Malthus Theory
Malthus hypothesised that the world’s population would increase exponentially, whilst food production would increase linearly, leading to population checks.
Crude Birth Rates
The number of births per 1000 people per year in a given population
Total Fertility Rates
The average expected number of births per women of child-bearing age (between 15-49) based on current on current birth rates
Replacement Rate
The TFR of 2.1 is significant as it is the average no. of births needed to replace the number whom have died in a population in a year.
Crude Death Rates
The number of deaths per 1000 people per year in a given population
Life Expectancy
The average number of years a person may be expected to live from birth
Infant Mortality Rates
The average number of deaths of persons less than one year of age per 1000 live births in a year.
Child Mortality Rates
The average number of deaths of persons aged one to five years old per 1000 children in a year.
Maternal Mortality Rates
The number of mothers who die because of child-birth related conditions per 100,000 surviving births.
Dependant Population
Those who rely on the working population for support, typically those younger than 15 or older than 65, who are not earning an income or paying taxes
Economically active
Those aged over 15 and under 65, who are typically earning an income.
Refugee
A person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster.
Asylum Seeker
A person who has left their home country as a political refugee and is seeking asylum in another.
