population Flashcards
Physical factor ‘relief’ could positively affect population density
high supply of water from rivers like the Nile in Egypt - boost agriculture
Physical factor ‘climate’ could negative affect population density
inhospitable climate such as the Sahara - difficult to travel on the sand, climate is too hot to grow crops
the geographical name for land
terrain
How could human factor ‘employment’ positively affect population density
high populated/dense city such as Tokyo with businesses and shops - increases job offers and employment
social development indicators for developed/developing in countries/cities
number of TVs per household, number of doctors per person
economic development indicators
infant mortality, life expectancy, literacy rate, calorie intake per day and death rate, % of people working in agriculture
give a few reasons for high birth rates
children can take care of their parents in their old age, higher chances of one or more child surviving, increase in family income as more children are working, lack of sex education.
what are a few reasons for high death rates
lack of healthcare, increase in widespread disease, war
name a few reasons for low birth rates
access to sex education, cost of living has increased so having kids are too costly, well paid jobs so kids aren’t born specifically to work, woman are focussing on thier jobs instead, there is more access to sex education.
give a couple reasons for low death rates
good healthcare - clean water, high nutrient - better diets, higher education levels,
Why do we use number of doctors per person to gather data as a development indicator
the less people there are per doctor, the more developed a country is. As educating doctors is a lengthy and difficult process due to countries unable to afford the proper materials many are untrained therefore harder to come by, this meaning proper healthcare is abnormal and rare.
Why do we use agriculture to gather data as a development indicator
The more farmers working the poorer the country as they can’t afford to import crops so instead must grow there own
How could ‘resources’ negatively affect population
Low/no (natural) resources to trade with to other countries like Greenland - no income/lack of
