Why was the Democracy unfair in the 1800s?

A
  • Only men over the age of 21, who owned land, could vote.
  • No women were allowed to vote.
  • Voting was not secret, some voters were made to publicly declare their opinion.
  • MPs were not paid a salary, therefore only rich people could become MPs.
  • Landowners often influenced people’s votes.
