Salient Features = Repetitious imagery of the soup cans, the Campbell’s soup cans fall into societies trends/pop culture (GIMMICK), the soup cans were a symbol of advertisements as art.
Context = It was the 1950s and 60s, the gay liberation movement occurred to urge others to express their homosexuality. Automation was reflecting the time, Andy Warhol wanted advertisements as art not art as advertisement. Pop art was essentially short term

Salient Features = Repetitious imagery of the Marilyn Monroe, the gimmick is the well known celebrity Marylin Monroe attracting attention to the viewers, the colors illustrate Marilyn’s vibrant personality. And represents truth vs.reality in Hollywood.

Context = Pop art was during the 50s which included imagery from popular and mass culture like comic books and mass produced products. Lichtenstein wanted to visualize stereotypes of American culture; minimalistic, valgrization and a direct response to capitalist America. Feminism, civil rights and gay liberation were a major factor during this time period.
