Q

Describe the process of recycling polymers.

A
  1. Polymers are chopped into flakes, washed, dried and melted
  2. Cut into pellets and made into new products

Q

Describe why and how we recycle PVC.

A
  1. Has a high chlorine content so is toxic
  2. We use solvent to dissolve the PVC and then the PVC precipitate is removed and we can reuse the solvent

Q

Why can polymers be used as a fuel source?

A
  • have a high stored energy value
  • so can be incinerated to produce heat which can generate steam to drive turbines
