Aetiology?

A

Genetic= PKD1 on Chr 16, PKD2» mutations that can be passed on to offspring

Pathophysiology?

A

Proliferation of tubular epithelium of kidneys
The cysts form, are attached to tubules and then they detach when greater than 2mm in diameter
The cysts damage adjacent nephrons when they get big enough

Presenting symptoms?

A

Hamaturia
Berry aneurysms (maybe SAH)
Flank pain
Palpable kidneys» LUQ
