3 Ways judicial independence is maintained in the UK

- Separated From Parliament e.g, Constitutional Reform act
→ Removes a conflict of interest between the government - Judges get an indefinite term
- Provides Job security - Judges are paid well
- Stops financial bribes

Explain and analyse 3 influences MPs when voting
A
- Trustee - MPs Vote based on their personal opinion e.g., MPs voting over the Abortion Act in the UK
- Delegate - MPs vote based on their constituencies. e.g., Zac Goldsmith voting against 3rd runway at Heathrow
- Mandate - MPs Vote based on the manifestoes of their party, e.g., Conservative MPs voting for Brexit.

3 Circumstances when Referendums occur
A
- 5 May 2011: UK – the referendum on whether to change the voting system for electing MPs to the House of Commons from first past the post to the alternative vote (no- 68%. Turnout 42%)
- 18 September 2014: Scotland – the referendum on whether Scotland should become independent (no- 55%. Turnout 85%).
- 23 June 2016: UK – the referendum on whether the UK should remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union (leave- 52%. Turnout 72%)
