Old labour (social democracy)
Labour principles embodying nationalism, redistribution of wealth (from rich to poor) and improving welfare state and service. Rejects Thatcherite, free market reforms and Blairite approach.
New labour (third way)
Traditional labour values and ideals represented by old labour. Third way saw labour shifting from focus of Woking class to wider class base and less robust alliance with trade unions.
One nation
David Cameron and Theresa May. Rich have obligation to help poor.
New right
2 elements:
- neo-conservatives who want state to have more authoritarian approach to mortality and law and order
- neo-liberals who endorsed free-market approach and rolling back state in lives and businesses.
Classic liberals
Individual freedom would best be achieved with state playing minimal role.
Modern liberals
Reaction against free-market capitalism , believing this had led to many individuals not being free.
Party systems
Way or manner in which political parties in political system are grouped and structured. There are several variants that could be applied to the UK including one-part dominant, 2-party, 2 and 1/2 party and multi party systems.
Left-wing
Those who desire change, reform and alteration to how society operates. Involves radical criticisms of capitalism made by liberal and socialist parties.
Right wing
Support for status quo, little or no change stressing need for order, stability and hierarchy - conservatives
Right-wing
Reflects support for status quo, little to no change, stressing need for idea, stability and hierarchy - related to Conservative Party.
