Legitimacy
Rightful use of power like govts right to rule following an election
Direct democracy
Individuals express opinions and not through representatives on their behalf. This type of democracy emerged from Athens and can be seen today in representatives.
Representative democracy
Modern form of democracy where people select individuals to act on their behalf in political choices.
Pluralist democracy
Political system is a political characterised by the distribution of power among various groups and organisations representing diverse views and interests. Leads to more inclusive and representative decision-making processes.
Democratic deficit
Flaw in democratic process where legitimacy lacks due to insufficient democratic input or subject to accountability.
Participation crisis
Lack of engagement from the electorate who chose not to vote or join in with politics.
Franchise/suffrage
Ability or right to vote in public elections. Suffragettes = women campaigning for right to vote on same terms of men.
Think tanks
Experts collectively focus of specific topics to investigate and offer solutions to complicated economic, social and political issues.
Lobbyists
Paid by clients to try and influence govt or MPs and HOL members to act in clients interest particularly when legislation is under consideration.
