What are the two main political parties in the US?
Republican- conservative in nature
Democrats- Liberal in nature
Where is the main voter base for the Republican Party?
The southern states, such as Virginia and Florida.
Where is the main voter base for the Democrats?
California, New York and the northern states.
Who is the increasingly voting for democrats?
The Hispanic population, giving them the ability to win elections such as the 2008 presidential election with Obama.
What occurred within the 1950’s?
The voter bases for the two parties shifted. Following FDR’s drastic intervention in the economy, the predominantly white voter base moved towards the Republicans, known for big business. After supporting the civil rights movement, black voters moved to the democrats.

What did Bush do to generate more Republican votes?
He manipulated the amount of Hispanic voters for the Republicans. He used the fact that he spoke fluent Spanish, increasing the vote by up to 20%.

Tough on Law and Order- stems from a pessimist view upon human nature.
How are Democrats divided?
There are many within the party, such as AOC who are much further left wing but due to the two party system they find themselves stuck within the Democrats.
