What the two views taken of Interest groups?
Elitest- That pressure groups just aid the wealthiest within society, and don’t enhance democracy.
Pluralist- Pressure groups help to widen participation within politics, therefore promoting democracy.
What are the methods that can be used by pressure groups?
Lobbying- paying people to vote in favour.
Voting Ques- cards that tell their members who they should vote for in elections.
Grassroot campaigning- Social media blitz, protesting and sending letters to their congressional representatives.
Mounting legal challenges- Brown v Topeka brought the NAACP into the forefront of civil rights campaigning.
Electioneering- They are able to set up PAC’s.
What approaches can Interest groups use?
Multiple points- spread their people across both state and federal areas of government to gain as much support as possible.
Single point- focus attention upon a singular person/area, this being the people most likely to be sympathetic to the same cause.
