Emphasizes society but doesn’t believe in equality but instead heir-ach; focuses on order.
Classical Liberalism
Individual reaches potential; focus on liberties; Laissez Faire economics; small gov’t
Marxist-Leninst Socialism
critique capitalism; focuses on equalism; believe in violent transition from capitalism to socialism (works have to rise up); Marxism treats us all as equals.
John Locke
Emphasized Classical Liberalism
Fascism
Supports the idea of unity above all else, may be united by race, propaganda, common enemies; needs a strong charismatic leader; uses violence and repression to keep people in line
Democratic Socialism
Wants to redistribute wealth but not 100%; Gov’t is heavily involved in the economy; peaceful transition to socialism
Modern Liberal Ideology
Rose up after industrial revolution; FDR responsible for this modern day liberalism; Big Government
Classical Conservative Ideology
Emphasizes universal morals; not supportive of any social programs
Libertarianism
dislike gov’t but think it’s necessary;fiscally conservative but support civil liberties
Conservatism in the U.S. versus in Europe
American - focus on individualism
European- Support welfare polices and provide some sort of gov’t help
