Difference between third person omniscient and third person limited?
In third person limited, the narrator is limited in the information they know, i.e. can’t tell the thoughts and feelings of other characters, but can tell the thoughts and feelings of the main character.
In third person omniscient, the narrator knows everything about the world they are narrating, including the thoughts and feelings of every character and all other information.
What is narrative voice?
The type of perspective the narrator has, are they trustworthy, are they emotional or are they telling an unbiased account of what’s happening?
What is an effect of 1st person POV?
It places the reader in the story, immersing them in the action.
Also restricts what the reader can see though, and might make their account biased because it relies on the perspective of one of the characters.
What is an effect of 2nd person POV?
Calls the reader out, makes them feel like they are in the story.
What is the effect of third person limited?
Let’s the reader know the point of view from one character but not the whole story. Information is incomplete and accounts may be biased.
What’s the effect of third person omniscient?
You can see what is happening with all the characters but they might not know what is happening, so you can foresee things that the characters can’t.
