Point Categories Flashcards
Think of the water system
What are the point categories
From Greatest to the least
1. Sea (He- Sea)
2. River (Jing-River)
3. Stream (Shu -Stream)
4. Spring (Ying-Spring)
5. Well (Jing Well)
The well is at the end so think of the points at the end
What are the well points and what are they generally known to do.
- Indicated for fullness below the ❤️
• Disease of the Zang - Most points are known for restoring consciousness and rescuing collapse
• except GB 44, BL 67 and SJ 1
Important to note that all of them are odd numbers except Gallbladder which is different in many other points, please keep this in mind for categorizing point systems.
It is 1 less than the well points
What are the spring points
Clears heat (SJ 8 disperses specifically but pretty much the same thing) and Liver 2 points clear fire on top of the heat. BL 66 it just says clears head
It has all odd number and normally 2 less than the well points minus GB
What are the stream points and What does it generally do?
The only one that is not 2 less than the well point is GB 41 which is 3 less, it’ll behove you to remember.
There the same as source points which is the 3rd point on the Yin organs and the 4th point on the Yang organs, except gallbladder which is the 4th point. Counting distal to proximal.
Indications:
• Disorders of the Zang ( with the ying-spring point)
• Yang channel Disorders (with the ying-spring point)
•Heaviness in the body and pain in the joints
•Diseases which attack intermittently
What are the river points
What is it’s general indications
The locations
Upper body: between the wrist and elbow
Lower body: between the ankle and knee
- Cough and dyspnea, chills & fever
• Diseases manifesting as change in the patients voice
• Diseases of the sinews and bones ( jing river points of the Yin channel)
Energetic action: qi flows like a current, May need more to help here
They around the elbow and the tibia
What are the sea points and what do they generally do?
Points are great for treating disorders of the stomach and intestines
• Counterflow Qi and diarrhea
• Disease of the stomach and disorders resulting from irregular eating and drinking
• Disease of fu
• Diseases of the skin (Yang he-sea points ONLY)
What are some general rules when counting different region in the ear in TCM?
HE = HELIX
AH = ANTI HELIX
TR = TRAGUS
AT = ANTI TRAGUS
IT – INTER TRAG
- Start the count from the base of the ear as it is referenced as the lobe is the head.
- Start the count from the most right continue left
What are the landmarks of the External ear
What are the master points of the Ear?
A. Zero Point, Autonomic (Sympathetic), Zero Point, Kidney, Lung
B. Autonomic (Sympathetic), Shenmen, Zero Point, Thalamus, Endocrine
C. Shenmen, Zero point, Master Oscillator, Sympathetic(Autonomic)
D. Zero Point, Shenmen, Zero point, Sympathetic (Autonomic)
The answer is B
Zero Point
General homeostatic balance
Supportive of other auricular points; “Solar plexus” point
Shenmen
Sedates the mind
Connects the body and spirit
Autonomic (Sympathetic)
Balances sympathetic and parasympathetic
Thalamus
Cerebral cortex connection
Regulates excitement, tranquility, sweating, swelling & shock
Endocrine
Homeostatic to endocrine levels
What are the secondary Master Points
Master Oscillation
Balances left and right hemispheres
Switches contralateral reactivity to ipsilateral reactivity
Allergy
Reduces inflammatory reactions
Tranquilizer
Produces a general sedation effect
Master Sensorial
Reduces overwhelming sensations
Master Cerebral
Reduces nervous conditions, negative thinking and psychosomatic disorders
**Landmark Key for pictures coming: **
a) square mean underneath
b) circle – on top or right where you see it
Lung 1 is for contralateral side; historically for breathing disorders
Lung 2 – ipsilateral side, historically used addictive disorders
Scaphoid fossa – it is like a baby with the head being the lobe and the middle being the elbow. The superior being the fingers
Antitragus- starts with cervical region and ends with sacral with coccyx being tucked away under the helix
What is the digestive route of the ear
It starts from the opening of the ear canal as it is similar to the mouth.
Where is the urinary tract and associated organs located on the ear, Be mindful that the liver, gallbladder, kidney, pancreas, and spleen are also on the route
Where are the Lung and Heart locations as they are by each other
On the ear where are the musculoskeletal
On the Scaphold fossa.
Upper Joint starts below the Lobe (which we consider the head) and progresses as it would anatomically to the fingers
What are the points of (National Acupuncture Detoxification Association
) NADA Protocol. Hint there are ONLY 5 points for this as of 2024.
Sympathetic/Autonomic
Shen Men
Kidney
Liver
Lung (Lung 2)
Think of it as the areas that you would need to actually detox the body
