Point 6 Flashcards
What is spatial technology?
Any software or hardware that interacts with the real world. Global Position Systems (GPS) Geographic Information System (GIS) and the use of satellite images are the most commonly used spatial technologies to visualise, manipulate, analyse, display and record spatial data.
What are the advantages to spatial technologies?
- helps show patterns and trends through maps and charts
- stores large amount of information
- makes it easier to present and share findings
What are the disadvantages to spatial technologies?
- can be expensive for equipment and training
- concerns about privacy and security of data
- old or incorrect data can cause mistakes
Remote sensing?
obtaining information of objects or areas from a distance
- satellite imagery
- aerial photography
GIS?
Geographical information system; digital systems for the capture, storage, management, analysis and visualisation of geospatial data.
Drones ?
UAVs capturing detailed images over small areas
