Point 4 Flashcards
What is magnitude?
The size or intensity of a hazard. may use a specific scale E.G. Richter scale (ecological hazards are measured by death toll and/or amount of people affected.
What is duration?
How long a hazard lasts (earthquake seconds) ecological hazards canoe recovery time or time taken to control an area.
What is frequency?
refers to the rate at which something occurs over a particular period of time.
What is probability?
The prediction a hazard will occur based on scientific observations or relevant factors to the hazard
what is spatial impact?
the area or extent of impact from the hazard.
What is spatial distribution?
The arrangement of geographical phenomena or activities across the earths surface; the location of features of a place; how features are arranged across the surface of the earth.
How to describe spatial distribution?
P: point out the general pattern of the graph/data
Q: quantify the data with statistics from the data point
E: are there any outliers or exceptions to the pattern
What is temporal distribution?
the distribution of geographical phenomena over time; when phenomena occur and/or how frequently, if known.
How to describe temporal
trends?
T: trends do they increase decrease fluctuate or remain stable.
E: Extremes - is there a point where it goes increase/decrease faster/slower
A: anomaly - period where its different from the overall trend
