PoetryElements. It is the voice in the poem that talks to the reader. Refers to itself in first or third person.

PoetryElements. Words/phrases used to create an image that readers can see through senses.

PoetryElements. The denotative and connotative meaning of word in a whole.
Important in Filipino poetry.
Diction
PoetryElements. Refers to the meaning of the poem. It is the overall message that maybe stated directly or indirectly.
Theme
PoetryElements. The repetition of initial consonant sounds on the same line or stanza.
Ex. Jolly joyously jump off the bed
Alliteration
PoetryElements. The repetition of entire lines or phrases to emphasize key thematic ideas.
Ex. We heal as one with kindness, we heal as one.
Repetition
PoetryElements. Words that sound like that which they describe.
Ex. boom, crash, swish, quack, slash
Onomatopoeia
PoetryElements. Rhetorical term used to designate the most elementary form of resemblances, use of “like” or “as”.
Simile
PoetryElements. Words that implies a direct comparison between objects or situations without the use of like or as.
Metaphor
PoetryElements. Giving/treating inanimate objects as human, by giving them human attributes like feelings.
Personification
Difference of denotative and connotative meaning:
Denotative: Literal or dictionary meaning of word.
Connotative: Meaning through word association to another word.
