What is the sonnet and what era is it from
The sonnet consists of 14 lines where each line in written in iambic pentameter and have a fixed rhyme scheme

What it the difference between Petrarchan sonnet and Shakespearean sonnet?
Petrarchan came first and split the first 8 lines into to two stanzas of 4 and the last six lines into two stanzas of 3
Shakespearean split first 8 into two stanzas of four and last six into two stanzas of 4 and 2
What is the difference between puritan and cavalier poems
Puritan- writers who felt the unrestrained enjoyment of the world and moved towards a greater strictness in life
Cavalier- writers who are cynical and ironic and are called cavalier because of the resemblance to that of the kings Cavalry, these poets reacted strongly against the strictness of the puritans poets

What is the romantic era?
A romantic era poem meant the abandonment of old accepted rules in society like politics, religion and literature. It initiated a new response to beauty and new ideology of freedom
What makes a romantic poem?
- common man was idealized, and basic goodness of mankind was presented
- there was a return to simplicity especially in lifestyles
- a return to lyrical expression of personal feelings and emotions
- heavy emphasis on nature

What is the Victorian age?
An age where the emphasis was on law and order, where proper social image was important. Victorian writers wrote literature with the purpose of instructing.
Did not want to paint a picture of themselves but if the world around them

Works dominated by doubt, sadness and despair
What is the comic mode?
Character and his problem entertains the audience rather then saddens them
