metaphor (compares without using “like”/”as”)
simile (compares by using “like”/”as”)
Poetry often uses _____________ by using one thing to represent another.
“The magic cap represented power to Dorothy and her friends, but to the Flying Monkeys it represented captivity.”
Bonus: Explain what this is and why.
symbolism
Bonus: Symbolism because the cap is representing things.
Example:
(What is this and why?)
“The door to her thoughts was closed and locked tightly. Nobody could get in to see what she was thinking.”
Bonus: What does it mean? Does she literally have a door on her face?
Symbolism- door represents her eyes/facial expressions. Nobody could ever tell what she was thinking.
