What is poetry
An imaginative awareness of exprience expressed through meaning, sound and rythmitic language choices to evoke an emotional response
What is a stanza
A unit of lines grouped together
What is a couplet
Stanzas of only 2 lines
What is a Tercet
Stanzas of only 3 lines, if all 3 lines rhyme its called a triplet
What is a quatrain
A stanza of 4 lines
What are alternating quatrains
4 line stanza rhyming “abab” quatrains
What is an envelope stanza
A stanza with the rhyming scheme “abba”
What is tone/mood in poetry
The attitude a poet takes towards their subject e.g joy, sadness, solemnity, frustration etc
What is a rhyme scheme
The pattern in which the end rhyme occurs
What is symbolism in poetry
A technique that conveys feelings, thoughts, and ideas using symbols
What is senses poetry
A poem that is written using one, two or all your senses
What is visual imagery in poetry
Visual descriptions so vivid they seem to come to life in the readers mind when they read the poem
What is auditory imagery in poetry
Descriptions of sound so vivid the seems to almost hear them while reading a poem
