What is an Onomatopoeia?
Words that sound the same as what they represent
What is Alliteration?
The use of the same letter or sound at the beginning of words that are close
What is Personification?
To give an inanimate object human characteristics.

To describe something ‘as’ or ‘like’ something else.
What is repetition?
The use of the same word/phrase more than once.
What is a metaphor?
Comparaing two things by saying they are eachother

The continuation of a sentence without a pause beyond the end of a line

This describes the beat of a poem
What is Rhyme?
When lines of poetry end with the same sound
What is a stanza?
A verse of a poem
What is Assonance?
When vowel sound within the words are the same or very similar
What is pivot/volta?
Point at which the poem changes the mood, time, etc.
What is Caesura?
A pause within a line of poetry to give emphasis

Use of words that are often humorous or sarcastic
