Suez Crisis = the British Empire begins to fall. Soviet satellite Sputnik launched into space. Animals in space.
1940s America
American public is aware that Auschwitz opens in 1940. Pearl Harbor. Mount Rushmore completed. Japanese-American internment camps = incensed racism against south-east asians. Hitler commits suicide after escaping assassination attempt. US drops atomic bomb in Japan. Bikinis introduced as a more sexualized image of women is created. Ghandi assassinated. China becomes communist. George Orwell published 1984. Soviets create their first atomic bomb
1960s America
Birth control pill approved in America. Berlin Wall. Bay of Pigs Invasion = American funded invasion of communist Cuba as part of the Cold War. First man in space. Cuban missile crisis. Friedan published ‘The Feminine Mystique’ which says that women are historically oppressed because of old ideas about their body and sexuality eg: abortion, motherhood, sex, etc. First woman in space. JFK assassinated. MLKs ‘I Have A Dream’ speech. Civil Rights passes in the US. Malcolm X assassinated. Vietnam war intervention begins. Mass Draft protest in US. MLK assassinated. First man on the moon.
