POCUS Flashcards
Cardiac US probe is A.K.A. what?
Phased array probe
Vascular US probe is A.K.A. what?
Linear probe
Abdominal US probe is A.K.A. what?
Curvilinear probe
What do A-lines on US represent? Normal or not?
Normal. Reflection of pleural. Horizantal, dimmer, parallel to pleura.
What to B-lines on US represent? Normal or not?
Abnormal. Dynamic, vertical ray extending from pleura to bottom of screen. Correlates with extravascular lung water (pulmonary edema), but not specific and can be seen in any alveolar filling or septal thickening defect (ARDS, IPF…)
In the PLAX view, the marker dot is pointed toward what?
Right shoulder
Descending aorta seen in what cardiac US view?
PLAX
In the PSAX view, the maker dot is pointed toward what?
Left shoulder
How do you differentiate pleural vs pericardial effusions on cardiac US?
In PLAX, pericardial effusions are between LA & descending aorta. Pleural effusions are deep to descending aorta.
Normal RV:LV ratio on apical 4-chamber view?
RV is no larger than 2/3 LV
In what view do you best see the RV bowing into the LV, indicating RV strain of PE?
PSAX
When finding IVC from RA, where does the marker dot point?
Toward head
