A

-Called automatic cuz many organs, glands and processes under its control are self regulating
-Occur without conscious thought
-Usually not under voluntary control

Functions continously whether we are aware, active, asleep or even in comma.

Activates/increase internal muscles, organs, glands to prepare for vigorous activity to deal with stressful or threatening situations.

Factors of SNS

A

-Increase heart rate and blood pressure and breathing rate increases so more oxygen can be taken.

-Pupils diate→ to allow more light to enter and enhance vision

-Sweat glands increase→ production of sweat to cool the body

-Also involved when you blush, get goosebumps, making the hairs in your body stand.

A

in times of mental stress and absense of threats the PNS helps to maintain the internal body enviornment in a steady and balance state of normal functioning.
