Silicosis
Most common pneumoconiosis
Silicosis
Most fibrogenic pneumoconiosis
Silicosis ( quartz)
Least fibrogenic pneumoconiosis
CWP
Most common pneumoconiosis associated with TB
Silicosis
Pneumoconiosis with least risk of developing lung cancer
CWP
Pneumoconiosis affecting Lower lung
Asbestosis
Pneumoconiosis affecting Lower lung
Silicosis
CWP
Berylliosis
Caplans syndrome
Rheumatoid arthiritis nodules ( in upper lung ) + pneumoconiosis ( mostly silicosis )
Most common type of lung cancer caused by pneumoconiosis
Non small cell carcinoma
( Adenocarcinoma)
Most common lung cancer caused in Asbestosis
Bronchogenic Cancer
Diagnosis of Silicosis
ACUTE :
Hilar LNAP
BAL- milky fluid , PAS + flocculent densities
HRCT - Crazy pavement appearance
Ground glass opacities with interstitial septal thickening along with interspersed normal areas
CHRONIC :
CXR- Egg shell calcification in upper lung (<1cm nodules )
- conglomerate masses
Cause of productive cough in acute silico proteinosis
Secondary alveolar proteinosis
Due to collection of Surfactants as a result decreased macrophage action ( because of exposure to silica dust )
