PMPCh8.1 - Plan Quality Management Flashcards
Plan Quality Management is
process of identifying quality requirements and/or standards for the project and its deliverables, documenting how the project will demonstrate compliance with relevant quality requirements
Benefit of Plan Quality Management is
provides guidance and direction on how quality will be managed and validated throughout the project

When should Quality Planning be performed
in parallel with other processes - cost/schedule changes cause risk analysis of impact to plans
Input of Plan Quality Mgmt (SPORER) - Stakeholder register
aids in identifying those stakeholders possessing a particular interest in, or having an impact on, quality.
Input of Plan Quality Mgmt (SPORER) - PM Plan
used to develop the quality management plan - scope baseline –> project scope stmt (technical issue details that can affect quality planning called out in scope statement), WBS (deliverables and work packages used to measure project performance), WBS Dictionary (detailed info for WBS elements). Schedule baseline. Cost Baseline. Other mgmt plans.
Input of Plan Quality Mgmt (SPORER) - OPA
policies, procedure, guideline, historical dB, lessons learned
Input of Plan Quality Mgmt (SPORER) - Risk Register
Info on threats and opportunities that may impact quality requirements
Input of Plan Quality Mgmt (SPORER) - EEF
Govt agency regulation, rlues, operating conditions, cultural perceptions
Input of Plan Quality Mgmt (SPORER) - Reqt Doc
captures the requirements that the project shall meet pertaining to stakeholder expectations.
TT of Plan Quality Mgmt (BCD SAM 7c): Benchmarking
comparing actual or planned project practices to those of comparable projects to identify best practices
TT of Plan Quality Mgmt (BCD SAM 7c): Cost-Benefit Analysis
for each quality activity compares the cost of the quality step to the expected benefit.less rework, higher productivity, lower costs, increased stakeholder satisfaction, and increased profitability
TT of Plan Quality Mgmt (BCD SAM 7c): Design of Experiments
statistical method for identifying which factors may influence specific variables of a product or process under development or in production; automotive designers use this technique to determine which combination of suspension and tires will produce the most desirable ride characteristics at a reasonable cost.
TT of Plan Quality Mgmt (BCD SAM 7c): Statistical Sampling
choosing part of a population of interest for inspection
TT of Plan Quality Mgmt (BCD SAM 7c): Additional Quality Planning Tools
Brainstorming, force field analysis, nominal group technique, quality management and control tools
TT of Plan Quality Mgmt (BCD SAM 7c): Meetings
planning meetings to develop the quality management plan.
TT of Plan Quality Mgmt (BCD SAM 7c): Seven basic quality tools 7QC
Cause and effect diagrams/fishbone/ishikawa, flowcharts, checksheets, pareto diagrams, histograms, control charts, scatter diagrams
TT of Plan Quality Mgmt (BCD SAM 7c): Cost of Quality
all costs incurred over the life of the product by investment in preventing nonconformance to requirements, appraising the product or service for conformance to requirements, and failing to meet requirements (rework)
TT of Plan Quality Mgmt (BCD SAM 7c): Additional Quality Planning Tools - Force Field Analysis
diagrams of the forces for and against change.
TT of Plan Quality Mgmt (BCD SAM 7c): Additional Quality Planning Tools - Nominal group technique
used to allow ideas to be brainstormed in small groups and then reviewed by a larger group.
TT of Plan Quality Mgmt (BCD SAM 7c): Additional Quality Planning Tools - Quality Management and Control Tools
used to link and sequence the activities identified
TT of Plan Quality Mgmt (BCD SAM 7c): Seven basic quality tools 7QC: Cause and effect/fishbone/ishikawa
Trace to root cause - why until root cause identified
TT of Plan Quality Mgmt (BCD SAM 7c): Seven basic quality tools 7QC: flowcharts
process maps for input –> output, activities, decision points, loops, parallel paths. Useful for understanding and estimating cost of quality in a process.
TT of Plan Quality Mgmt (BCD SAM 7c): Seven basic quality tools 7QC: checksheets
Tally sheet, organize facts, facilitates effective collection of useful data about a potential quality problem
TT of Plan Quality Mgmt (BCD SAM 7c): Seven basic quality tools 7QC: pareto diagrams
vertical bar chart showing few sources responsible for causing most of problem’s effects
TT of Plan Quality Mgmt (BCD SAM 7c): Seven basic quality tools 7QC: histograms
central tendency, dispersion, shape of statistical distribution. Doesn’t look at time (like control chart)
TT of Plan Quality Mgmt (BCD SAM 7c): Seven basic quality tools 7QC: control charts
looks at if a process is stable or has predictable performances. Upper and lower limits. Out of control when data point exceeds control limit, 7 consecutive plot points above the mean, 7 consecutive plot points below the mean. Monitor cost/schedule variances, volume, frequency of scope changes, other management results
TT of Plan Quality Mgmt (BCD SAM 7c): Seven basic quality tools 7QC: scatter diagrams
correlation charts explain a change in a dependent variable Y in relationship to change in independent variable x
Output of Plan Quality Management (QQQPP): Quality Mgmt Plan
how the organization’s quality policies will be implemented. Component of pm plan.
Output of Plan Quality Management (QQQPP): Process Improvement Plan
plan details the steps for analyzing project management and product development processes to identify activities that enhance their value. Component of pm plan.
Output of Plan Quality Management (QQQPP): Process Improvement Plan - 4 areas: Process boundaries
purpose of the process, the start and end of the process, its inputs and outputs, the process owner, and the stakeholders of the process.
Output of Plan Quality Management (QQQPP): Process Improvement Plan - 4 areas: Process configuration
graphic depiction of processes, with interfaces identified, used to facilitate analysis.
Output of Plan Quality Management (QQQPP): Process Improvement Plan - 4 areas: Process metrics
allows analysis of process efficiency.
Output of Plan Quality Management (QQQPP): Process Improvement Plan - 4 areas: Target for improved performance
Guide the process improvement activities.
Output of Plan Quality Management (QQQPP): Quality Metrics
describes a project or product attribute and how the control quality process will measure it. The tolerance defines the allowable variations to the metric. Ex: on-time performance, cost control, defect frequency, failure rate, availability, reliability, and test coverage.
Output of Plan Quality Management (QQQPP): Quality Checklists
structured tool, usually component-specific, used to verify that a set of required steps has been performed.
Output of Plan Quality Management (QQQPP): Project Document Updates
