Sanitation of living placed and related service facilities
Are minimal standards always obtained? Why or why not?
No they are not due to demands for combat effectivemenss, but CO will strive to achieve them
WHat system must minimize the introduction of contaminated air? and what are the sources of the contaminated air?
Intake for ventilation and air conditioning. Minimize from:
- Topside exhausts
- Stacks
- Water spray
Maximum temp for air conditioning?
80 F on dry bulb
Minimum heat for heating units?
65 F on dry bulb
What is the ventilation system designed to do on a ship? What is the exchange rate? Where are some specific locations its required?
- Minimize humidity and odor
- Exchange rate of 15 changes per hour
-Required in: Galley, Scullery, Laundry, Each shower group, Each water closet group
What type of pillow is prohibited on a ship?
Polyurethane pillow
What must mattress inserts be made of?
Low smoke foam rubber
Is hot bunking allowed?
Hot bunking is prohibited (minimum standard, can be overruled based on mission hence subs hot bunk)
Who are separate berthing and dining facilities provided for?
Crew

Barber shop requirements on a ship? (how many per personnel)
- 100 accommodations will have portable barber shop with storage locker
- 101-300 accommodations will have barber shop with one chair
- Ships over 300 will have a barbershop and additional shop for every 300 personnel.
When will a snack bar be provided for personnel?
Greater than 500 personnel
Laundry facilities requirements
Ships with 100 or fewer:
- 16LB capacity washer and dryer
- Three hand irons, three ironing boards
With more than 100:
- Facilities capable for processing 24 pounds per week per accommodation
- Ironing boards and irons will be provided in all berthing spaces.
Who will make routine inspections of toilets, lavatories, and berthing spaces?

What must you do to a space with a sewage backflow?
Space must be secured immediately until situation is corrected and space is cleaned and sanitized.
Why do you need to change bedding and linen frequently?
To prevent odor accumilation
Who performs sanitation and habitability inspections? How often?
IDC and they are done quarterly
Who does the IDC submit the sanitation and habitability inspections to? WHat is included? When do you notify the person in charge of the space?
Reports go to CO via COC
- ID discrepancies
- Recommend corrective action
- Perform onsite training while conducting inspection
Notify PIC when
- Prior to conducting the inspection
- Results of inspection
- PIC should ACCOMPANY inspector
Disinfectant for barbers must be
- EPA registered product.
- Demonstrated BACTERIAL, VIRUCIDAL AND FUNGICIDAL activity as outlined in manufacturers instructions
Barber shop health requirements
- Employees medically screened for communicable diseases
- Med screening needs to cover diseases based on locality
- Annual evals are not required unless deemed NECESSARY by MED AUTH.
Who must approve barber shop cosmetics, tonics, lotions, bleaches, dyes, disinfectants and sanitizing agents?
